Ready for Adventure: How Assistive Technology is Helping Kira Explore the Outdoors

This fall, Kira is heading to Forest School.

For a 4-year-old who loves outdoor adventures, there is no better classroom.

"Kira has a big personality and an even bigger love for adventure. Kira absolutely loves being outdoors — exploring parks, going for walks, feeling the fresh air, and experiencing everything nature has to offer. She is happiest when she is outside,” says her mom, Bettina.

Thanks to a specialized pushchair provided through Manitoba Possible's donor-funded Assistive Technology Program, Kira can enjoy long days exploring the forest with her friends.

The specialized pushchair is designed to move through grass, sand or gravel, and is built to provide personalized safety and support. It empowers Kira to explore, learn, and play.

"Even though she experiences the world differently, she has such a strong curiosity and determination to be part of it," her mom says. "Receiving the jogging stroller has been life-changing for Kira and our family. It has opened up a whole new world of outdoor adventures for her."

Through your generosity, Manitoba Possible provided over $187,000 of tools and equipment to Manitobans with disabilities last year. But the real impact isn't measured by numbers; the impact is felt in the experiences it makes possible.

"What means the most to us is that Kira gets to participate, rather than having to sit out because something is physically difficult for her. She can be right there in the middle of the adventure, taking everything in and enjoying the outdoors in her own way."

Manitoba Possible’s Assistive Technology Program helps Manitobans with disabilities access the tools they need for full and equal participation in their communities. From mobility equipment, hearing devices to communication iPads, custom wheelchair attachments, and smart home modifications—every item helps people do more of what matters to them.

“For Kira, this isn't simply a stroller. It's freedom, inclusion, adventure, and the ability to keep up with her unstoppable spirit. It means more opportunities to explore the outdoors she loves so much and more memories for our family to make together.”
